Forward-looking Control Technology of Agricultural Non-point Source Pollution and On-site Experimental Demonstration Project

Absrtact
Research of green control technology and management strategies for agricultural non-point source pollution was conducted in this project. According to the management strategies of agricultural non-point source pollution in Europe, United States, and Japan, and responsibilities of competent authorities and related regulations in Taiwan, future works for agricultural non-point source pollution mitigation were advised. For the first time, this project cooperated with farmers in the upper catchment area of Shihmen Reservoir. Applying biochar, biological agents and microbial fertilizers, agricultural non-point source pollution control field tests on the red plum, green bamboo shoots and pitaya farmland were conducted. With green control technology applied, nutrient absorption ratio of crops was increased and further nutrient mass in infiltration water and runoff water was reduced. However, it was necessary to appropriately adjust farming and technology application methods based on functions of technology and soil fertility conditions of farmland. Furthermore, the nutrient quality balance model and pollutant transport model established by the results of field tests could grasp the total amount of nutrient input, and further the distribution ratio of absorption by crops or loss with runoff and infiltration. These models could also estimate the total nutrient loss in water body, and assess the application effects of green control technology in a systematic way. Moreover, two expert consultation meetings, one technical training, forty-three on-site technical direction, promotion guideline and documentary were completed to support government’s future work regarding the application of green control technologies for agricultural non-point source pollution mitigtion.
